Got this light on sale for $58, which was a great deal! Haven't ridden extensively in the dark dark yet due to being effectively the summer solstice currently, but I will update with my experiences once it's darker in the mornings.Of note, even with a large fan blowing on the light to try to cool it, when on the high setting for the high beam, the light gets hot enough that I don't want to hold onto it and it reports in the app that it's at 60C temperature. This may contribute to the light output falling off quickly over time in this mode that some reviewers report. On the high setting for just the low beam it sits in the 35-40C temperature range with a fan blowing over it which is a more reasonable temperature for LED output health. The beam cutoff is good and it gives a nice wide swath of light, but I do not like any of the flashing modes and they aren't very customizable. The battery life quoted for the flash modes is poor and the instructions and app interface to customize the flash modes is extremely confusing. I've resorted to running the high beam at 10% output as a daytime running light instead of trying to mess with the flash modes, hoping it'll get somewhere around 10 hours of useful runtime like this. The app's battery level reporting is not very granular. Mine seems to show 100%, then 50%, then 20%, and there's no reporting of runtime remaining, which is annoying since you can easily adjust the brightness levels which will dramatically change the runtime compared to the stock light output levels where Magicshine give runtime estimates. The button LED which indicates charge level is similarly not granular, when the app reports 50% battery the button LED is red.Overall, I think this is the best light for the money, but it's definitely not the best light.
Perfect for long endurance road/gravel rides! I've bought this light to prepare for a long gravel race that could extend into the evenings (113 miles), so I need a long lasting light that's also bright enough for some off road riding. This light is definitely well exceeded my expectations, you can see the beam pattern in my picture and that's set for high beam at level 2. I've done night training rides as long as 3 hours, using mostly between low beam level1 on road, or high beam level 2 on gravel, with occasionally high beam level 3 (max). At the max setting, everything lit up like daytime. Another huge bonus is that unofficially, it does support pass-through charging. I did confirm with their support that while it does support it, they don't recommend using this long-term. This would come in handy in case of emergencies when you need even longer runtime if you have a battery pack with you. The app that I've downloaded is very basic, but it does allow you to program your modes and the remote control works flawlessly as well. While I didn't get to use the light in the race as I finished before sundown, I did use this in training at night as I mentioned, and didn't have any issues with the plastic arms, although I would not recommend this on a mountain bike.Light pattern: it has a very defined line, this is very helpful for road conditions so you don't blind oncoming traffic. This also includes the on the side as well. On the high beam setting, then the light pattern floods across and almost into the treelines, but the sides still has the sharp cut line. This may not be as helpful when offroad.Overall, I am very happy with this light, I would probably supplement with a helmet light to cover the peripheral for offroad use.
1. Super bright, I would say that 800lm on the low beam is more than enough for all conditions, 400lm is pretty good and I would recommend 600lm if you want to have a similar experience to 800lm while saving some battery life.2. The cutoff is awesome, you can just use it on the low beam setting and switch to the high beam on some dark intersections and stuff like that to alert other people, it would be useful to read a sign or stuff like that on really dark conditions, otherwise you can ride without blinding people using the low beam.3. The beam pattern is great, super wide to the floor with very sharp lines, really long which gives you plenty of time to react.4. I am not a really big fan of really bright flashing lights so I wouldn’t use this one as a flashing light, you will just blind everybody with this light, having said that the flashing mode is great to alert other people that you are there on certain conditions, the difference between the low beam and high beam distance is considerable so when you turn on the flashing mode the floor below a pedestrian or another cyclist will start to flash which they will instantly notice a few meters before you arrive, just make sure you turn it off after you overtake them to not annoy other people, use it sparingly.5. I love the remote, it makes switching between modes super easy and the high beam wouldn’t be usable without it.6. The mounting system, super practical and it puts the light on the perfect position, it’s perfect if you use a computer already.I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 for a few reasons:1. The battery life is a bit misleading, the light will “last” 3hs when you set it to 800lm on the low beam but after 2hs the light will go down to about 200lm all of the sudden and you can’t change it until you charge it.2. As some people mentioned the remote won’t work sometimes, the issue is not the remote but the light, for whatever reason sometimes the Bluetooth on the light will stop working and you can’t control it using the remote or the phone app, the only way to fix it is to plug the usb cable and it will start working again, pretty weird, it happens very very rarely but I would turn it on to test it before you go out just in case.I can see how the plastic support that the light is attached to would break if you over tighten it, it looks stiff and like most things that are stiff they are also brittle if you compress them, I haven’t had an issue with it so far but after seeing the other reviews I made sure to not over tighten it, you don’t need to over tighten it to get it into the perfect position.
I've been an endurance cyclist for twenty five years and in that time I have owned a lot of bicycle lights. They just keep getting better and better. This is no exception. It wasn't long ago that a light like this would have cost $300 and I would have paid it. To get this for less than $70 is fantastic. It has a shaped beam so it makes best use of every photon. I won't buy round beamed lights anymore. Take a look at the video I attached and you can see that the beam is shaped so the entire road appears evenly illuminated without extra photons blasting the eyes of oncoming traffic. Remember, even though photons have no mass, the battery does. So every photon that shines up into the treetops came from a battery that you have to carry around. Shaped beams are great. The upside down mounting position is unusual and takes some getting used to. If, like me, you already have head units, aerobars, and stuff on your handlebars, you will appreciate this. However it would be even better if you could choose which way up you mount it, like my Towild CL1200.The high-beam/low-beam feature is great, but it only works well because of the remote. It's easy to mount the remote on your handlebars and flip from high to low, between modes, and into flashing mode. If there aren't enough modes for you, use the app to create your own custom modes. The mount that comes with the light is a combination GoPro/Wahoo/Garmin mount that fits onto 31.8mm or narrower handlebars. Some people have said it's flimsy because it is plastic, but I think it is well sturdy enough for the job. Having said that, I have 22mm handlebars so I had to buy a different mount from Amazon. Please watch the video. I hope you can see why I like this light so much.
It's really bright! People on the trail actually complained! (My fault I needed to angle it down more). I like it it, awesome brightness, good battery. It's a bit heavy. Mount works well.
