Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a leather dye or color restorer?
No. It is a filler for minor surface damage. After the filler dries and is smoothed, use a compatible leather paint or colorant if color matching is needed.
What damage is it best for?
It is best for small cracks, scratches, scuffs, shallow peeling areas, minor burn holes, and small splits on smooth leather.
Can it repair a large tear or broken seam?
No. Large tears, damaged stitching, missing structural material, and heavily stressed areas may require a patch, backing fabric, or professional repair.
Can I use it on vinyl or faux leather?
It may be suitable for compatible leather-like surfaces, but always test adhesion and appearance in a hidden area first.
How long does it take to dry?
Drying time varies with layer thickness, temperature, and humidity. Allow each layer to dry fully before sanding or recoloring, and avoid direct high heat.
Can I use it on suede or nubuck?
No. The filler is intended for smooth surfaces and may permanently change the texture of suede, nubuck, or unfinished porous leather.
Should I test it before the full repair?
Yes. Test a small hidden area first to check adhesion, texture, and compatibility with your chosen leather paint.

Hard to get right, easy to get streaks

This product is hard to get right. I had painted my motorcycle seat with an acrylic paint (for a slight color change), also by this company.Let’s just say it gets streaky. I tried just about every application method, but I found that a sponge gives the best results with least amount of streaks.Lightly dip one side of the sponge in the solution, and use very light strokes, alternating directions until the white and the bubbles spread evenly. If done right it gives a nice semigloss finish, is flexible, and is not tacky.

Great product for repairing leather!

I purchased a leather sofa with a small area that had been damaged by a cat. I used this leather filler to repair it and am very pleased with the result. It was easy to apply and I don’t believe the flaw will be noticeable once I apply the re-coloring balm

Perfect finish

I used this on a pair of leather shoes. It took about 72 hours before the tacky effect became dry. Easy to use, no mess. Great value. Dries clear and easy to apply.

This filler really works wonders

The armrests on my sectional had tears, holes, and cat claw punctures that made the whole thing look ready for the junkyard. I worked some filler into the hole and tear and it pulled the edges together. It dried fast. I kept sanding and smoothing more filler over the damaged area with a putty knife. Time and patience are needed! Finally when the areas were smooth I used Angelus Leather Paint which covered the white of the filler perfectly. Angelus has many colors and Dark Taupe was an excellent match for my leather. Wish I had taken a before photo to show going from disaster to looking brand new.

Great for shoes

Superior to all the other brands. I tried to cheap out and get something else but I learned my lesson. Angelus is worth the price! If you want your project to last get this! I painted son’s shoes and they shine like I bought them that color. He’s wore them in 3 baseball games and they still look great. No flakes are scratches. Way more durable than other brands. If you are thinking about painting shoes you need to grab this.

Worked great.

I dyed a guitar strap black with some Angelus leather dye, but neglected to remove the original finish from the leather before hand, and the dye kept rubbing off even days later.I worried that I was going to have to strip it all off and start from scratch, but decided to give this a try first. A couple of coats and the problem was solved.Angelus makes some great products.

So Far So Good

Wish there was some more precise tools provided but given the price point, I'm not upset. Relatively straight forward process, does its job. It does dry white so be sure to have paint.

shoe repair using leather filler

I had some patent leather FitFlops that I loved. However, I was careless and walked on wet grass etc and eventually the y became very damaged on the sides. I don't believe they are actually patent leather but a faux leather. A lot of the patent leather was rubbed off, so I had to fill them. It did a good job but I do have a recommendation that the company provide a curved plastic tool as well as a straight edge they do provide. This would make the repair smoother on a curved area, less sanding. Using the patent Magic Ultra over the filler created a nice finish. Not perfect, if I had a better tool, maybe a smoother finish. It's still good. As for durability, that remains to be seen.

This stuff is Magic!

This stuff is magic. I had torn leather seats on a 23 year old Jetta I’m restoring. The corners of the 2 rear seats were ripped up and had 1” wide tears about 4-5” long each and quite jagged. I was going to use leather repair tape, but I decided that it was worth attempting to fill and repair them. If it didn’t work out I could still use the tape. If it worked, we’d have new seats. I first filled the openings with fiber fill as needed and then glued a heavy duck fabric to the underside. Next I began layering in thin layers of the Leather Filler. It took me several days to apply, air dry, repeat to get to level I wanted. I did feather out and even sanded as needed to get a smooth and even finish. I am waiting for the factory matched leather dye to complete the process. But, I am so thrilled either way with the results so far. If you close your eyes and run your hand over the repairs, you can barely tell there is a difference. Once they’re completely finished and dyed, I will try to update with pictures.

Great Leather Finisher

I used this to finish a bag customization & restoration. It was easy to apply and left a nice and shiny finish. I have been using the bag for a few months and the shine has stayed and I do not feel I need to touch it up at all.

Even, Durable Satin/Eggshell Finish

This brushes on glossy but when it dries, it is closer to satin or eggshell-- almost matte actually, but with a slight sheen. This definitely is not "high shine" or high gloss, so please be aware of this before you buy. It dries evenly and creates a durable low-gloss finish, regardless of if the original surface was high gloss to begin with. The end result resembles the leather look of a new tennis shoe with a mild sheen. One minor point is that I noticed the higher gloss versions of this for some reason dry tacky (even after several weeks) on the artificial leather I had painted, not suitable for a seat. But after applying two coats of the No. 600, it is virtually tack-free and still looks professional. For some reason, for the material I was working with, lower gloss finishes feel less sticky when dry, and vice-versa.Overall I would recommend this product as long as this is the sheen you desire, and it pairs wonderfully with the Angelus line of brushes as well.

Amazing

Used to seal a faux leather paint job and it's held up amazingly. Great quality finisher. Perfectly clear and leaves a satin type finish. Doesn't leak out of th3 bottle and you get so much for the price. A little goes a long way with a sponge

The Best Leather Finisher You Will Use!

This leather finisher has been a saver not just for an old leather chair of mine, but for my car, and even my shoes! This Finisher makes everything look the same and holds onto the paint color as well! I mix this before using it, but it has worked wonders on all the leather materials I’ve restored. Thank you Angelus!!!
